LK 2nd Year in Review - Here we go Again...
Well, here we are again. February 28th, the LamerKatz anniversary. Two years ago today I publicly announced a small website I had thrown together in my spare time. The website took a sarcastic view on Quake lamers by posing as the website of a fictional clan composed entirely of lamers. I had little webpage experience, no staff, no advertising... all I had was a nasty sense of humor and a determination to make a successful webpage. My first year of business was filled with twists and turns, ups and downs, lefts and rights, um, insides and outsides... okay I think I've run out of directions, but needless to say my first year of running LamerKatz was quite an adventure. If you haven't read my first "Year in Review" article, I suggest you do so now.
The biggest obstacle I overcame in my first year was making a "name" for myself and LamerKatz. As I entered year two, I already had a fairly large base audience that I could count on to visit my site, which was very cool, but at the same time it just meant more pressure was on me. Without posting any new features on LamerKatz, not only would I never get any new readers, but also my existing audience could get bored and go away. So what I really had to concentrate on was producing high-quality, original, and most importantly FUNNY features that would be sure to land LamerKatz in the spotlight.
So as I entered the second year of LamerKatz I got right down to business. I often find that the funniest ideas can be found simply by looking at what is happening in the Quake community. The "hot thing" at the moment was the fairly recent release of Quake3, and all the warez monkeys who were desperately trying to find ways to crack the CD-key system id had implemented to stop piracy. The newsgroups and forums were flooded with requests for CD-keys, cracks, key generators, etc, so that was obviously a good place to start. It didn't take too long to come up with the "CD-key cracker" idea. Mix one Saltine Cracker with one permanent marker, and you've got yourself a CD-key cracker my friend!

Just wanted to let you know the link to the cd cracker is dead.
I see you have made a cd key crack but where can I download that crack on your site? Please reply.
sorry but I can not find your link for downloading cd_key q3. The symbol is there but no link. Pl. help!
I tested it, and the cd-key cracker came right up. What problem exactly are you having?
I can access the address, see the picture with the cd cracker, the nice sentence on top of it, the link list to my left hand site...... but I can not find the download button. Can you send the file?

The Quake community was also in a flurry about reported aimbot sightings. Many hoped that Quake3's network code would be "uncrackable", although unfortunately that didn't turn out to be the case. For a long time I poured over how to make a joke of the whole aimbot situation. My hopes were finally answered when I remembered a Radio Shack "Armatron" robot arm that my uncle owned that I always used to play with as a kid. I figured since everyone sees an aimbot as a simple computer program, why not make a physical "robot" aimbot? I soon got ahold of this Armatron, borrowed a digital camera, and snapped a few pics of the arm poised over my mouse as if it was playing Quake. The pictures came out great, but I wanted to do more than just post a few oddball pictures, so I tied everything together with an "infomercial-style" selling pitch, proclaiming why my aimbot was better than all the other competing brands (?). The L-Aimbot was released on April 2nd, 2000, and met with instant popularity. I think the L-Aimbot is somewhat of an icon that can easily be associated with LamerKatz. Why, just last week one appeared on Buy.com, and I have no idea how it got there!
Have you restocked you L-AIM BOT supplies yet? If so I would love one.
We've run into some manufacturing problems. Our factory workers in Guatemala went on strike, and our vice-president of sales just got arrested for income tax evasion so we're not really running on a full staff. I could give you a rain check though, and let you know when things get going again.
Any chance of getting a Vendor Demo, that may be lying under some boxes?
