LK Year in Review - In the Beginning... It all started for me when I was 8 years old. I remember sitting at the table with my family, eating dinner, when suddenly I began hearing the voices... It was around this time I discovered early signs of telekinesis as well, after I was contacted by the Alien forces orbiting Pluto. Oh, but you don't want to hear about that, do you? I know you're just here to read about LamerKatz! :) Well... I started work on the LamerKatz in the fall of 1998, but I knew darn well about the existence of "lamers" long before that. The first LAN game I ever played was Duke Nukem 3D, and I was immediately hooked. Quake didn't appeal to me when I first saw it, because I didn't think the graphics were as good as Duke's (sorry!). I was like "What's so good about polygons?? At least Duke doesn't have a block for a head!" Luckily, my friend ZeroBurn finally managed to convince me to give Quake another try, and after playing for a bit I realized how wrong I'd been. He saved my life. :) The multiplayer architecture of Quake was light years ahead of Duke, and it boasted such wonderful features as "dedicated servers" and the ability to "join a game already in progress." Wow, unbelievable! I quickly started going to LAN's and building up my gaming skills as fast as I could. Pretty soon I started exclusively playing Threewave Capture the Flag on MPlayer. This was really the first time I'd played a game over the Internet against people I didn't know (before that, I usually dialed a friend's house with my modem... remember that?). Maybe it was because I was no longer just playing my friends, or maybe it was the anonymity that the Internet offered, but suddenly I made the startling realization that a lot of gamers are assholes!
